Hello friends! Today was chilly and blustery so I pulled out my woolen skirt and argyle sweater to wear.
I love these trees! They may be scary in the wind storms, but they’re beautiful now! That’s the thing about trees. Because they’re so big, they can sometimes be intimidating, especially in a storm. When you see heavy branches swaying above your head in the strong winds, trees may seem angry and daunting because of their size.
Some may think that God is the same way; big, scary, angry, and intimidating. Some don’t think of God as a loving Father and friend. Maybe they don’t have a personal relationship with Him or were never introduced to the idea that God is someone we can talk to whenever we need to and know that he loves us no matter what we do!
Today, God put this song in my heart:
“What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!”
“Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!”
This is the first verse to a hymn written in the 1800s called “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” The lyrics were written by Joseph M. Scriven and the tune by Charles C. Converse. It reminds us that Jesus is our friend who always wants to hear from us through prayer. We don’t have to believe that God is a stern black cloud in the sky. He is our Father, He is our Savior, and He is our Friend. I am so happy that I can rest assured and know that God is my friend who may be big, but not intimidating.

Do trees sometimes seem intimidating?
Do you know someone who doesn’t think of Jesus as a friend?
What could we do to show others who God really is?
