This passage comes from Frances Hodgson Burnett’s book, The Secret Garden. The story takes place in Yorkshire, England, in 1899. The first voice speaking in the quote above is Colin Craven, a young crippled boy who has never been outside of his mansion. The voice answering him is his cousin, Mary Lenox, who has come to live at Misselthwaite Manor after her parents died while living in India. The 1994 movie based on this book is one of my all-time favorites!
I love many of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s books mostly because of the time period in which they take place and also because of the witty phrases in her books which make them classics.
I chose this quote because spring is coming! My world will soon be transformed into a secret garden filled with bright flowers and warm rain! If only I can wait until then. . .

Have you seen the 1994 movie, The Secret Garden?
Are you waiting for spring to come?
